First things first...baby girl needs a ceiling fan..especially since the front of our house is the warmest part of the house.
Daddy (Keith) hung up baby's fan...I wanted to take a pic of him actually doing the installation but he had his shirt off and that may not be blog worthy so I didn't take a pic. Here is the fan in action...although it looks like it is still!

Baby girl's most special thing to have...so far!!!
Here is the story:
Keith's mom (Lynn) was over at the house several weeks ago and I was showing her a few things that baby already had gotten. One being a jumbo bassinet (handed down to me by a great friend Sheri!!)..she said...awww..I had a bassinet that you could have used..I said...tell me more...She said it was old and I prob. didn't want it...She said that was the bassinet that she used when Keith and sisters were babies...the one that she and her siblings were in when they were all babies and the one that Keith's Gran and her siblings were in when they were babies...meaning that this bassinet that I had never heard of was at least 75 years old and was sitting in the Reasons' attic waiting for someone else to love it! My answer was...HELLOOOOO! Of course I want to use that bassinet!!! She got it down for me from the attic and now it sits proudly in my living room waiting to be "freshened" up. It needs a cleaning, a new coat of paint, and of course a wheel....we might even splurge for 4 new wheels..haha Here is a pic of this special bassinet!

This is the dark brown gingham fabric that I plan on making a liner with an awesome ruffle around the top for the bassinet!

Let me tell you what a genius I am...haha
So the gingham fabric I wanted was dark brown and cream...the only brown gingham fabric I could find was dark brown and stark white...booo!!!
So...I bought half a yard of this brown and white fabric and decided I would experiment....
First I filled up my bathtub with hot water and then threw in some tea bags and soaked my fabric for 2 hours I guess...Seth (my stepson) came into the living room and said...Why is there dirty underwear and bags of that tea stuff in my bathtub...hahaha...that was hilarious..I then had to explain to both of my boys what I was doing. This did not work!! booo! I then said hmmm maybe it just wasnt strong enough tea...so I got a pot out boiled up some water...put 5 tea bags in the hot water (like I was making super strong tea) turned off the eye and put my fabric in the pot and soaked it over night...when I woke up...I got the fabric out and said..hmmm this just might be perfect. here was the test...wash it! The fabric came out perfectly!!! Dark Brown and cream...here is a picture but you can hardly tell!

I plan on using the gingham fabric for some more ruffles on the bumper I plan on making...here is the brown and cream toile (hince the need for brown and cream gingham fabric)

This is another fabric for the bumper..it is a really light peachy-pink silk like fabric with rouche accents

This is a dark brown minky dot fabric being used as an accent fabric for the bumper and all over the room here and there!

Here are all the fabrics together!

Now we need to pick a paint color...ooooo...look at all the pretty colors!

The four colors we narrowed it down to..

The four with the fabric we are trying to match...you cannot tell in this picture but they are all like identical colors and match the fabric in different ways. Our decision is Shrimp Toast (the second from the left)

Well that is all I have got for now. Keith is going to paint the room this weekend..I think...we are also going shopping for the chest for baby and a glider for the room. We have lined up the purchase of a cherry Jenny Lind crib, changer, and a toy box...so I think we are doing pretty swell. Now I just need to get started on all this sewing!
Wish me Luck! haha...I am going to need it!
Your so creative, I can't wait to see pictures of the final product!!! I LOVE the bassinet story too!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I can't wait to see the final product. Every year we have a Pow Wow with our 1st graders and we dye their shirts with tea bags! Works perfectly. Miss you like crazy! I wish I was there to help. Love you
ReplyDeleteI know her room will look gorgeous. I was at Bartlett Woods on Sunday and saw Keith but I did not see you. Wish I had:(. I had to leave early to try to get back to Chattanooga though so I kind of rushed out. Love ya and miss ya and keep me updated on the shower!
